Taeniolethrinops cf.furcicauda "Mdoka"


Taeniolethrinops furcicauda is living in sandy environments, on depths of 5 up to 40 meters. Particularly, they can be found along the southeastern coasts of the lake between Lumessi and Luwala Reef but they probably can be found on more places around the lake.
This species, which is bearing resemblance to Taeniolethrinops furcicauda as we know it, was found in the neighbourhood of Mdoka on the northwestern coast. This colorvariant is missing the skewed stripe on its body however through the yellow color on the lower part of its head and fins it bears resemblance to Taeniolethrinops furcicauda.


In the lake the males of these species can grow to 21 cm, females grow to about 17 cm.


Taeniolethrinops cf.furcicauda is mainly feeding itself with grubs of insects which they jigg out of the sand. You can best keep this species with multiple females in a large tank with a lot of swimming space. It`s a quiet, peaceful cichlid which can be hold best with other quiet species from equal environments, mbunas are generally too aggresive.


In the aquarium they are comfortable with any food. They take everything they get offered, like spirulina pellets, mysis, artemia, cyclops and shrimp-peas mix.
